The
heron is standing very quietly at the edge of a pond. You can see lots
of cherry blossom petals on the ground so it must be sometime in late
spring or early summer. The long pointed beak is perfect for spearing
fish, frogs and other animals. This carnivore builds nests in the tops
of trees and usually near other herons in a heronry or heron rookery.
The long legs mean it can stand in the water while fishing for prey.
